I’m unsure if genes passed down from my mama or maybe being born in the early generation of cheap and accessible home computers are the cause, but I’m privileged to have natural technical curiosity. Although the source remains shrouded in mystery, my technical curiosity feeds into my drive to progress in the technological field. This continuous drive will be the catalyst for me achieving my goals in my career. It is imperative that consumer protections are bolstered as the technological field expand into new capabilities both tangible and intangible. Understanding why I value consumer protection requires a brief overview of my core values as an employee.Customer SupportThe effect of one bad experience can be detrimental to the reputation of a business/ department. Often the potential financial and physical detriment a bad product can cause a customer is overlooked until legal liability is involved. Exploitative practices of large corporations have done a disservice to the principle of “putting the customer first”. I believe protecting customers is a conducive strategy to the success of any business, and protections in the technological field have lagged as the Internet has grown well beyond our wildest imaginations in the 1990s.Resource AvailabilityThe lack of resources in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood presented a challenge for my growth in the Information Technology field but my natural inquisitiveness led me to conducive spaces for such growth. Society is becoming more technology dependent, making it imperative that citizens have experience with some form of tech during cognitive development phases. Increasing the availability of resources improves a consumer base's ability to interact and engage with a product. The value in offering education to the consumer is often looked past but it misses out on the opportunity to create the generational consumer.Let's start a dialogue!
