Life and disability insurance underwriter for companies ranging from 300 to 5,000 lives. Fully responsible for writing and renewing insurance plans, updating financials, providing experience data and adding on new lines of coverage for an assigned case load of approximately 60 cases. Responsible for verifying compliance within state guidelines, analyzing data on claims in question and reviewing contracts. Direct contact and negotiations done with account managers, sales, and regional heads of sales. Directly involved in all premium billing issues pertaining to under and over payments. Leader of many projects that help improve efficiencies within the department. Developed a tool to produce experience data (premium versus claims) in a more timely fashion which is now used by the entire renewal underwriting team. Recently assigned to underwrite association groups and also assigned a new task of mentoring and training a newly hired employee. Received awards for highest case retention in the Mid America region for 2012 and highest premium growth in the Mid America region for 2013. Served as an employee survey champion for 2012 which involved analyzing all responses from employees in the GI underwriting department and developing ways to improve areas of dissatisfaction.
