CurrentBase are a national charity funded through membership with a clear mission.We have close to 300 member organisations across the UK, from larger charities, local authorities, education providers, to social enterprises and small CIC’s all working within the only evidenced- based model that supports disabled and neurodivergent people into careers.The Supported Employment Model has five stages and is underpinned by a clear set of occupational standards. Employers are valued as an equal partner, where long lasting relationships are built that supports the ongoing positive cultures embedded within organisations. The model was originally designed to overcome the huge barriers that exist for people with a learning disability and or autism into employment, once embedded into recruitment practices BASE can support employers to understand the principles of supported employment and access supported employment services across the UK. Unfortunately, despite the clear evidence base that the supported employment model succeeds where the mainstream routes to recruitment don’t work, not all local areas have a supported employment agency, but BASE can provide a clear list of what is available and make meaningful connections.
