Let's Start by Breaking Down by Numbers:- 9 Years in Education- 2 Years in Teach for America- 2.8 Years of Reading Growth in one academic year (6th grade) as measured by Read 180 and Systems 44- 33% increase in Mathematics Performance in one year (6th grade) as measured by state testing- 1st Grade to 6th Grade Experience- 3 Years of Professional Development and Teacher Leadership Experience- 30 Years of Passion for LearningIf we push numbers to the side, I might describe my experience a little more fluidly. Teaching has provided me strength in more facets of my life than just the classroom. I've learned to battle my inner demon of clutter (okay, well...largely). I've spent years upon years honing attentive listening skills, rapid but thoughtful problem solving, and building deep connections with people of all ages and life stories quickly but authentically. Teaching has afforded me opportunity after opportunity to reach out beyond the expected criteria and well into the exceptional. For example, I've led committees on establishing a school culture and climate of positivity (with initiatives to promote student buy in) and acted as a Department Chair in ELA to get an eclectic group of educators vertically aligned. Beyond all, I am grateful to be an ally for people regardless of social labels, regional culture, and socioeconomic status. As a Title 1 Educator, a tutor, and in administrative roles, my goal is always to bring the best version of myself to peers, superiors, and (most importantly) the clientele.
