In this role I held a number of responsibilities including; leading on personalisation (inclusion and intervention), line managing SEN, G+T, EAL, literacy and numeracy and challenge across the curriculum. Line Management of Year 7 as well as two colleagues on the Extended Leadership programme and through them had responsibility for: stakeholder engagement.
As SENCo I led the transformation of the SEN department from inadequate to good within six months and outstanding within a year. My significant impact is evidenced by the percentage of students on the SEN register achieving 5 A*-C grades at GCSE. In 2008 this was 7% and rose steadily to 2012 when 68% of SEN students gained 5 A*-C grades, and 99% gained 5.
As a learning support teacher at this outstanding CTC, I was Deputy SENCO and largely took responsibility for Key Stage 3 students with SEN. I undertook statement annual reviews and applications, managed the IEP process and led a primary transition curriculum for students with SEN. I also taught CPSHE across all key stages and devised intervention.
I qualified to teach on the TeachFirst programme which places recent graduates in challenging urban schools, often with extra responsibilities. I was a teacher of humanities, citizenship and SEN in both the onsite PRU and the Centre for physically disabled students. In my NQT year I was appointed as teacher in charge of Key Stage 3 CPSHE, developing.
