Supporting Welsh Government’s goal to become a zero waste and net zero carbon nation, the move to a circular economy where materials are kept in use for longer and waste is avoided.Leading a core component of the work to deliver against the Programme for Government commitment through the implementation of a Deposit Return Scheme for Drink Containers (DRS) currently planned to be introduced in Wales from October 2025. The scheme is implementing a major change which will see producers responsible for the cost over the lifetime of the drinks containers and consumers paying a deposit at the point of sale of drink containers which is refunded when the container is returned.

Leading on the co-ordination and delivery of public health policy with a primary focus on the development of a national obesity strategy as part of a commitment through the Public Health (Wales) Act 2017. I developed the national strategy Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales, following consultation. I developed and oversaw implementation of the 10 year Strategy and the subsequent two yearly Delivery Plans. • Led a team to take forward delivery;• Established productive working relationships with departments across government to enable cross-cutting work and policy development;• Effectively engagement with a range of external stakeholders and communities to lead policy development, in order to secure active involvement and to drive change;• Supported active engagement and campaigns, working with internal communications and with Public Health Wales;• Continuous oversight of Drafting Ministerial advice and supporting the team to provide high quality briefing.

Working directly for the NHS Chief Executive and Director General, Health and Social Services, this role provided an insight into the Welsh NHS and health and social services aspects of government working. The role combined:• crucial support and upward management for the NHS Chief Exec/DG HSS in their busy and complex dual role;• fast paced government business: providing, commissioning and quality checking briefing for the First Minister and Cabinet Secretary;• several high profile secretariat functions;• liaison and support for NHS Wales Chief Executives and their teams.

Providing invaluable support to the Permanent Secretary to aid them achieving their objectives.• acting as a channel of communication between the Permanent Secretary and internal and external stakeholders, communicating the views and decisions of the Permanent Secretary clearly and accurately;• time management for the Permanent Secretary, reflecting their priorities and demonstrating strategic, efficient and manageable use of time; • maintaining an awareness of the political and organisational environment;• acting on belief of the Permanent Secretary, and as a crucial link between the Private Office and Ministerial, Deputy Permanent Secretary and DG Health Private Offices, identifying and resolving day to day issues;• leading on several key priorities including internal and stakeholder communications; the equality and diversity agenda; justice policy, constitutional issues and state Honours. Developing close relationships with relevant policy teams;• providing advice and guidance to the private office’s wider team.
