The VHIP is a Virtual Healthcare Interpreting Practicum for Glendon Master's level students who have completed their healthcare interpreting coursework. Students interpret full length, simulated assignments as if in the hospital or had been given a telephonic or VRI assignment. This program is particularly exciting because healthcare interpreting internships are nearly non-existent due to privacy legislation, patient safety concerns and budgetary constraints. In short, few students in the world get an opportunity to do any kind of internship. Most are expected to show up to the hospital ready to go from day one with no on-the-ground training. The VHIP remedies this unfortunate situation by giving students a safe place to gain practical experience without putting patients at risk.

As founder and director of the Cucuyo summer art program, which brings Dominican and American teenagers together in the Dominican Republic to interact and explore their cultures through collaborative art projects, I was responsible for all communications with our Dominican coordinators, recruitment of artists, oversight of publicity materials, maintaining the board informed, coordinating fundraising events, website content, compliance with the 501(c)3 non-profit code, trip logistics, and, during our sessions overseas, I acted as interpreter and principal director.
