I have the pleasure of teaching at the Ecole Polytechnique, France's top engineering school, ranked second best small university in the world (Times Higher Education 2020). For the last nine years, I have taught general and professional English courses to first and second year students, as well as offering theme classes: Africa, the Bright Continent, Wildlife & Biodiversity, Speaking with Confidence and Accuracy, A Sustainable World and TOEFL IBT preparation. I also teach two third year classes: Games & Gaming and Start Ups. For Master of Science and Technology students, I offer a course on the theme of Games & Culture.I like to make my classes as dynamic and interactive as possible, and have developed numerous speaking activities and gamification ideas, as well as a variety of IT tools.I was delighted to become head of the English section in the summer of 2023, with a fantastic team of 10 contract teachers and 30 'vacataires' (part-time teachers).

I very much enjoyed teaching the dynamic and high potential students of HEC Paris, France's top business school. My classes included Foundation English for first year students, as well as theme classes for first and second years. The format of classes evolved over the years, but concentrated on three main areas: current affairs, professional English and cultural aspects of English-speaking countries. My aim was to improve the students' fluency through various speaking activities: debating, presentations, roleplays, discussions and public speaking. We also worked on professional skills, such as writing CVs and cover letters and simulating job interviews. We discussed current affairs, contemporary issues, cultural differences and subjects of concern to the students. Soft skills are developed in language classes: communication skills, teamwork, confidence in speaking, convincing, autonomous learning and cultural awareness. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I taught online, using numerous IT tools.I offered various theme classes over the years, including Postcolonialism, Multiculturalism, Africa - Portrayal or Betrayal and Speaking with Confidence and Accuracy.I also participated in special courses for Classes Préparatoires students as part of the 'Egalité des Chances' project. These are students from less privileged backgrounds whose English needs a boost before they sit the highly competitive entrance exams for the French Grandes Ecoles (top universities).As a corrector for the written exam and an examiner for the orals, I have worked for the Direction des Admissions et Concours for many years during the exam period.I also taught English to many staff members at HEC, administrative, technical and academic.

As a Maître de Langue, I had numerous responsibilities as well as teaching English to first, second and third year engineering students at this prestigious French engineering school. Teaching: I taught skills classes designed to improve the level of students in speaking, writing, reading and oral comprehension. I often covered themes such as new technologies, space exploration, educational issues, current affairs and the world of work (CVs, cover letters, application forms, interview practice and changes in the working environment). I prepared students for both internal and external tests, notably the TOEFL.I also offered optional theme classes:Contemporary Issues and Hot TopicsProject Development (social entrepreneurship)Africa: Portrayal or Betrayal in the mediaSpeaking with Confidence and AccuracyWildlife (environmental issues, the wildlife trade, ethical treatment and biomimicry)Other pedagogical activities:I designed courses and assessment tests, prepared material, carried out research, gave individual help to students (particularly with CVs), managed external and internal testing, and communicated with students on numerous subjects (such as new projects, courses, tests and available resources). I helped the student society Enactus to prepare their social enterprise projects and helped students prepare for debating competitions.I also taught staff classes for members of the personnel from a variety of departments who need English in their everyday jobs.

I taught both in the language school in Massy and out in companies. Teaching working adults is both rewarding and enjoyable. I have taught learners from a very wide range of sectors: R&D engineers in lasers and telecommunications, a financial director for a medical technology company, French gendarmes, the under-19 French rugby team, the artistic director of a theme park and so many more!

I worked as an English teacher in the centre and in companies for this small language school. From September 1996, I was given numerous responsibilities for the everyday running of the school from teacher training to course planning, and from customer contact to timetabling and testing.From 1999 onwards, I worked part-time on specific projects.

Four wonderful years as a French teacher and class tutor in a girls' school in Harare, Zimbabwe. I taught pupils aged 12 to 18 and prepared them for the Zimbabwe Junior Certificate, the Cambridge Overseas 'O' and 'A' Levels. As class tutor, I was responsible for the overseeing of the studies and welfare of one class each year. I accompanied groups on outdoor adventure course and on language exchanges to Reunion Island.
