I have experience analysing substances for the presence of controlled drugs, using presumptive testing, FTIR, TLC, GCMS and microscopic techniques, interpreting the analytical results and producing statements of the work carried out, for use in court, applying my knowledge of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and Regulations 2001.I have been trained to act as an Expert Witness and have experience with other basic laboratory techniques (for example, cleaning and calibrating scales, disposal of wastes, examination of drugs items, preparation of samples for purity analysis, preservation of packaging for fingerprint and DNA examination, trace analysis and maintenance of the low-level-examination area).I am a member of the department’s Heroin profiling team using GC-FID, and one of the junior FTIR champions. In addition, I am a departmental health and safety representative, a Lean representative and a professional member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences.My work includes communication skills, for which I have also undertaken a training course, team working and daily experience communicating with customers.I have experience working to laboratory standard operating procedures, governed by ISO and UKAS standards, using GLP.I manage my own caseload to set turn-around times and prepare computer and hardcopy casefiles of analyses carried out.The work carried out is of a sensitive and exacting nature, and I have demonstrated that I am trustworthy, and can be relied upon to work accurately.
