I acted in a paralegal capacity, negotiating contract terms on behalf of our clients who are mainly Architects/Engineering Consultancy firms, Solicitors and other professionals who require Professional Indemnity Insurance. It required looking in great detail at various types of construction contracts, in order to provide feedback to clients about the impact of the terms, and to better manage their professional risks.

This role was a full time, paid, elected position as a Trustee for Hull University Union, my particular role having responsibility for Performance and Participation sport at the University and within the Student's Union. I acted as spokesperson for the Students at University meetings and on the Sports Development Steering group with Senior Management, and also at regional BUCS conferences and events. Internally my role required me to look after the Student Unions charitable status with the other 5 members of whom we made the Union executive committee (UEC). What I achieved during my year: * Successfully negotiating an increased subvention of £200,000 for the Student’s Union from the University, to be used for the charitable aims of Hull University Union. * Turning round an Athletic Union deficit * Organising Tri-Varsity where 1,000 students took part in sporting competition * Successfully campaigning to alter the Student Union Constitution via a referendum to bring it in line with the Charities Act * Working with volunteers to oversee fundraising projects i.e. Athletic Union Ball, Calendar and other events. * Working with fellow trustees to change Hull University Union’s constitution to fit in with current Charity Laws. * Editor in chief of the Student Union publication ‘Hullfire’ Show less
