Transforming democracy is the focus of the current chapter of my journey. Since coming to consciousness around environmental issues as a young person, I have charted my life path to maximize my positive impact on the world. I spent the first decade of my adult life focused on the climate crisis and then pivoted to focus on the democracy crisis, seeing the health of democracy as a precondition for progress on climate and the other social issues of our time.I launched right into a professional leadership role as the first Solar Program Manager at the Philadelphia Energy Authority in 2017, based on my experience as an organizer and activist before and alongside my time in undergraduate and graduate school. My responsibilities at the Energy Authority expanded over time, ultimately leading to my promotion to Director of Development, Policy, and Workforce Initiatives. With the backdrop of extreme polarization in the wake of the 2020 presidential election and the January 6th insurrection, I decided to step away from that more senior position in 2021 to explore ways to bring people together across lines for the common good. I have been grateful to have the opportunity to pursue just that in my role as a consultant with the SHIFT Foundation. My work with SHIFT has been largely self-directed, giving me significant space to imagine and pursue the programs that I see as the most impactful contributors to the field. Currently, I am building out an Action Lab with partner groups from across the country to support them in learning from one another and innovating together for the sake of making their bottom-up work more effective.
