Profile bio

About Laura Vineyard, Phd

I am a coach and community organizer with a background in scientific research.I have successfully run my own personal training business, ShockYard Fitness & Social Club, for ten years. This includes navigating the transition from a brick-and-mortar studio to a hybrid virtual practice. I specialize in new and nontraditional athletes and have excellent retention with my clients. Working with individuals who have minimal or negative prior experiences in gyms requires coaching with authentic kindness and empathy. I excel in creating a learning environment that is a safe place for people to grow. As the Executive Director of Body Positive Fitness Alliance, I have extensive experience with the operations side of running a nonprofit as well as organizing multiple international conferences. I create educational materials for fitness professionals as well as assist other educators in sharing their knowledge with our community of learners. Our organization works to transform the fitness industry into a place that is inclusive and accessible for all people. My role within BPFA includes developing and disseminating creative content, graphic design, video editing, and course building on the education platform, Thinkific. I am also responsible for establishing our organization as a 501c3, as well as coordinating our fundraising and budgeting.Prior to entering the fitness industry, I completed a PhD in Biology. Scientific research requires in-depth project management, specialized knowledge within a given field, and an ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to audiences with a range of understanding pertaining to the topic. My graduate school publication, “Progressive Transverse Microtubule Array Organization in Hormone-Induced Arabidopsis Hypocotyl Cells,” has had a high impact within the field, with over 80 citations. The skills needed to complete a PhD and conduct independent research are highly transferable to any kind of research or project design.
