Working within rare disease team, specifically cystic fibrosis and bespoke testing

I currently work within specimen reception at West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory. I am responsible some of the pre-processing steps that are involved with samples that enter the laboratory. I am responsible to ensuring all samples received into the laboratory are assigned to the correct sample pathway as the laboratory deals with samples which are for germline, prenatal, haemato-oncology and molecular pathology. Furthermore, I ensure samples are booked in, in a timely manner to ensure DNA extraction or cultures can be commenced to ensure patients get provided with results as quickly as possible.In addition I am responsible for white cell counting haemato-oncologysamples and performing long term storage of cell suspensions.
