About Lo (Laura) Grogan
I am a queer non-traditional medical student at Medical College of Wisconsin with an interest in reproductive psychiatry, perinatal psychiatry, LGBTQIA+ psychiatry, adolescent psychiatry, reproductive rights and how systemic racism, homophobia, transphobia and mental health stigma leads to disproportionate health outcomes for BIPOC, Latinx and LGBTQIA+ folks.I spent a year off of medical training in San Diego, California working on advocacy efforts for civic engagement through VotER as well as Reproductive justice education through AMSA and MSFC. I published a first author manuscript on improving the management of obstetric hypertensive emergencies and remain passionate about efforts to address morbidity and mortality in reproductive care.I am the former president of the Medical Students For Choice MCW Chapter, and the former founding PR chair of MCW White Coats 4 Black Lives. I have also been on Kern Institute pillars working on improving the student experience, managing student inclusion and developing discrimination reporting and response procedures in our medical training. Black lives matter, Black trans lives matter, LGBTQIA+ lives matter, and I am so fortunate to be on a path to learning how to be a provider whose day to day interactions with patients reflect those beliefs. Progress not perfection.
