About Laura Yvonne Bulk
My goal is to enhance the life of my community, both local and global. As a scholar and activist, I do this by sharing space with previously silenced voices, as an OT I do this by joining individuals on the journey to self-empowermentI have a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Victoria, and a Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of British Columbia. Being passionate about promoting equal opportunities for disabled people and evidence-based practice, I am pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at UBC with a focus on occupational justice and exploring how we can influence change in policy and social attitudes, which in turn might increase inclusion. As an OT I consider it a privilege to come alongside individuals and groups on the recovery and rehabilitation journey, and I am passionate about client-driven care that is delivered with integrity. I have worked with individuals who experience mental illness, neurological conditions, spinal cord injury, low-vision, and brain injury. As a scholar I desire to make significant contributions to knowledge generation that will help create positive change, and I am humbled by the participants with whom I work, whose stories and experiences are incredible and courageous.Research-Based Theatre is one of the exciting new ways I am sharing the stories of research.I chair the B.C.
