Laura Burns is a seasoned communications design professional who uses her proven skills in brand development and design of strategic communications to bring fresh ways of looking at every project. Laura is the Founder and Creative Director of designlab, inc. Founded in 1992 as a collaborative communications design studio with an emphasis on developing compelling and engaging corporate and brand image systems and materials, Laura operates as an integral member of each client’s team. She carefully considers and discovers their needs and challenges in order to anticipate and articulate their messages to end users. Laura uses her vast experience in project management and production to oversee the art direction of photography and illustration, as well as other design services partners. Additionally, Laura consistently respects timing and budget parameters, securing estimates from various types of vendors. Laura has developed and implemented identities and collateral for a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small, non-profit organizations. The studio’s client list over time has included an emphasis on education and healthcare, along with many small businesses and startups. Current long-time clients include Washington University Undergraduate Admissions, Forsyth School, RAND Corporation, Ranken Jordan and family-owned Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company, which includes Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier. Laura has created and developed an extensive range of projects, including print and digital assets such as advertising and awareness campaigns, annual and quarterly reports, books, capabilities brochures, catalogs, exhibit design, graphic standards guides, logo development and implementation, information graphics, invitations and announcements, magazines, marketing kits, naming and positioning strategy, packaging, posters, signage, user experience and website design standards and architecture. In addition to designlab, inc, Laura is also Co-Founder and Creative Director for Girls Will Be and two restaurants located in Webster Groves – Madrina, a new Italian restaurant, and The Parkmoor Drive-In, founded in 2020.
