Laura W. Byrd comes from a strong background in music. As the former Director of music at two Dallas area United Methodist Churches, Laura oversaw all areas of music ministry and worship planning. She directed many ensembles, both choral and instrumental from Pre-K to mature adults. Laura received her Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Sacred Music from Perkins School of Theology at SMU (Magna cum laude) in May 2010. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree in Choral Music (Dean's List) from Baylor University in 2005. Laura is currently the music director at Christ United Methodist Church in Farmer's Branch, TX. She also currently leads the Wesley Choir at the Denton Wesley Foundation, a United Methodist college ministry serving all North Texas colleges. She is passionate about congregational song, making new musical soundscapes, and using alternative worship ideas to create a genuine, meaningful experience. Laura also has a passion for helping the working musician. At the core, Laura believes that music is a window to the soul and wants new music to change the lives of those who hear it! Laura is acting as administrative manager for independent artist and husband, J.R. Byrd, and their family business J.R. Byrd Music. She is involved in animal rescue and has fostered many dogs from DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue. Her hobbies include reading, theological discussion, yoga, meditation, design, and photography. Laura and her husband, J.R. live in Little Elm, TX with their five dogs: Lucy, Holly, Giraffe, Duncan, and the newest member, Batman.
