As a lab assistant, I progressed the synthesis of non-natural norbornene containing isoprenoid substrate for the protein farnesyltransferase. This involved performing lab activities including setting up lab equipment, preparing chemical solutions, conducting tests, interpreting and analyzing data, compiling results, preparing reports, and presenting conclusions and findings. In addition, I was asked to present my findings at chemistry conferences, including the University of Minnesota Undergraduate Research Symposium and the American Chemical Society Conference in Denver, Colorado in April of 2015.

I was responsible for accurately researching and synthesizing Bis(2-nitrophyenl)methane over the course of five months. Throughout this process I earned valuable experience in instrument use, reagent preparation, and enhanced communication and problem-solving skills. My findings of the crystalline structure were published in the IUCr Journal of Crystallography;Acta Cryst. (2014). E70, 0859.
