    As a Council Youth worker, I was recommended for the role as a Behaviour Support Officer for a pilot scheme in a North Lanarkshire High School. This pilot scheme was to monitor pupil’s behaviour and social attitudes to reduce the disruption in lessons. It was my responsibility to ensure all children received an education without disruption, which meant that I had to remove unruly pupils from the classroom environment and assist them with their lesson in the Behaviour support base. In addition to this, it was also my responsibility to update daily reports on all pupils who were recurring visitors to the base and pupils who were causing concern in class. I had to implement and plan their education and social understanding timetables and present these to the head teachers and social workers. It was also my responsibility to report on teacher pupil relationships and to find solutions to ensure harmony within the classroom, which sometimes involved attending lessons with individual pupils. In addition to this I ensured pupils had taken the relevant medication for conditions such as ADHD and other behavioural problems. On occasion, I had to take a class if a member of staff was running late or called in sick at short notice, this allowed management time to arrange a supply teacher to cover the remainder of the day and it also allowed me to monitor behaviours and attitudes of pupils that may otherwise have gone under the radar.
