I enjoyed the high level of trust and responsibility in this role, being independently in charge of answering all inquiries during my shift, and helping new members to find the perfect membership solution and classes for their fitness and self defence goals. In each 20-30 minute time slot, I provided them with exercises, techniques, and repertoire they could take home in between sessions to address their personal goals and challenges. I also was able to take initiative in improving efficiency in our Twitter communications by creating a streamlined document, similar to an editorial calendar, including future tweets and drafts, and tracking analytics. This document also significantly improved awareness of audience response to each tweet, allowing a better understanding of our audience and allowing us to curate content they were more likely to engage with. The program provides grants to students between the ages of 15 and 29, allowing them to start their own businesses during the summer. Many students in the program continue operating their business following their summer in the program, after the grant and other support provided by the program allows them to kickstart their business.This was the case for my business, which I continued to operate for the two following summers. It was a joy to see the children's confidence grow throughout the week of Musical Theatre camp. At the end of the week, even the most shy children participated in solo speaking and singing lines in a small show for their parents.Marketing my business, selling my camp to parents, and working closely with a camp assistant was a wonderful growing opportunity for me in one of my first work experiences. As a hands-on learner who is self-motivated, running my Summer Company business allowed me to develop many of the skills and behaviours that allow me to succeed in the workplace today. Show less
