Small Commercial Senior Field UnderwriterThe Hanover Insurance Group Apr 2011 - Apr 2015#1 in Pacific Northwest Region in New Business premium 4th quarter 2011.#1 in Pacific Northwest Region in New Business premium through October 14, 2012.• One of 3 underwriters that contributed to growing the Pacific Northwest region so quickly that we needed to hire 4 additional underwriters. • Helped onboard and train 3 of the 4 recently hired underwriters. I am passionate about developing my coworkers, helping them learn how we operate, and to show them what they need to know in order to be the best they can be here. • Continually achieve 100% accuracy on underwriting file audits. • My sales partner recently actively lobbied to have a critical book transfer process handled by me rather than the book transfer team due to her confidence in me and the way I handle my agency relationships.• Continually seek opportunities that will help me improve personally and professionally. For example, I have passed 2 of the required exams for the ARM designation. I take the final exam next month.• Frequently asked by sales partners and underwriting management for feedback on our product and rates due to my experience with other carriers in CA, and my strong relationships with my agents in CA. • My coworkers from as far away as Texas come to me for help consistently. The regional underwriting manager frequently contacts me for input, and information about our California appetite and guidelines. • Lines of business: General Liability, Property, Inland Marine, Auto, Umbrella, BOP, Crime, Workers Compensation/Employers Liability, Professional Liability. -
Field Production UnderwriterIlm Group Aug 2010 - Feb 2011• In this position I utilized my existing agency relationships in Sacramento, Central Valley, North Coast, Redding, & Eureka to increase production in the Northern California territory. ILM has been writing in CA since 2008. ILM has a niche focus for risks related to the lumber industry, short of logging. I had great success in increasing the number of submissions in my territory, but ILMs financial rating (B++ IV, negative) has been a significant obstacle in getting those submissions booked. From my previous experience one can see that I have excellent relationship building skills and turning those relationships into growth, which is why I was eager to take on a production role. • In this role I planned, scheduled and made agency visits all over Northern California, often staying overnight. I was responsible for letting the agents know what they write, how good they are at it, and how they can overcome the obstacle of ILM's financial rating. I generated and dispersed “cold” leads and often pre-qualified risks by visiting the accounts myself, or with the agent. I also generated “warm” leads for agents by dropping in on risks on my own and then referring the lead to one of our strongest agents in the risk’s area. • I have grown as an underwriter in this position as this company is a package writer. There is no small business or BOP product, as there was with my two previous carrier positions. I learned to analyze fire load, private fire protection, products liability exposures, and large equipment exposures at levels greater than required at small business and BOP carriers due to the unique nature of wood-related exposures.

Commercial Lines UnderwriterFarmers Insurance Group Of Companies Oct 2008 - Aug 2010Woodland Hills, Ca, Us• I performed several of the same duties as in my previous position. My current position is much more underwriting intensive. My current employer is not one that determines eligibility based on cookie cutter criteria. We are asked to evaluate risks on a more complex basis, to think outside of the box. • I excel at being available and visible to my agents. I return phone calls within 2 hours and emails within the business day. Year to date I have visited the Central Valley four times with all trips consisting of 2 days or more. During my 2 short years in my current position, I have been able to rebuild soured, crumbling relationships and get activity where there was none before. My interpersonal strengths are communication, collaboration, and establishing & rebuilding strong relationships. I am known for delivering a high level of service, flexibility, and performing at the best of my professional abilities. • I am a leader, an innovator and knowledge source. My less confident or outspoken cohorts see me as their representative. When concerns are brought forth I always have suggestions and ideas to offer as solutions. I know the strengths of my teammates so that I can refer to them if I or someone else has a question. My manager refers to me as the “knowledge transfer champion”. I am always keeping up on our company’s strategy, coverages, and policy forms. I am able to effectively share that knowledge with my team in meetings, on paper, and when I am approached with a specific risk or issue. • I adapt well to change. Recently I had to balance my CA territory with managing the entire state of NV as well for 2 months. I am consistently able to deliver high levels of service while managing the territories of 2 other underwriters in addition to my own if that is what needs to be done. • Lines of business: General Liability, Property, Inland Marine, Auto, Umbrella, BOP, Crime, Workers Compensation/Employers Liability. -
Commercial Lines UnderwriterNationwide Oct 2005 - Oct 2008UsOne of my strengths is my ability to build and maintain agency relationships. Through these relationships, I am able to get agents to produce and give us first shot at business. I demonstrated great flexibility when territories were realigned and when agencies were reassigned. I continuously received positive feedback from agents regarding my ability to help them grow their book of business, and finding ways to write more business. They always told me how much they appreciate my availability and willingness and how I work with them as if I am their partner in business. My superiors and work associates praised my ability to effectively receive and implement feedback to enhance my performance and value. In my department, other underwriters were referred to me when they needed assistance finding information, classifying a risk, or understanding coverage and policy forms. I mentored new underwriters, provided feedback to the training department and also participated in the training of new underwriters and associates. I managed a work load that consisted of mail, submissions and renewals, answering and promptly returning all phone calls and emails, maintaining positive and efficient relationships with agents, other underwriters in my and other departments and processors. I evaluated risk eligibility and ensured proper documentation in file. I reviewed inspections, updated policies with audit information, extracted business from agents, retained business, and maintained a low loss ratio. Lines of business: General Liability, Property, Inland Marine, Auto, Umbrella, BOP, Crime. -
Commercial Lines/Farm ProcessorNationwide Aug 2004 - Oct 2005UsAs a processor, I learned the following lines of business: Business Owners Premier new business, renewals and amendments; Umbrella new business and renewals; Business Auto new business, renewals and amendments; cancellations and reinstatements- all lines. I am highly knowledgeable in all of the systems that the Processing Department uses daily including Excel, Word, and can quickly navigate manuals and other resources. My level of knowledge enables me to find and suggest solutions to systems errors, as well as point out differences between training manuals and 'real world' experiences. -
Personal Lines Account ManagerMaw, Michener & Associates Dec 2001 - Aug 2004I worked as the personal lines CSR and I handled commercial lines billing issues and issued certificates of insurance for commercial clients. I processed amendments, claims, quotes, new applications, cancellations, rewrites and billing notices. I handled most of these duties online on our various carriers' websites. I answered calls from customers, rated, and worked with underwriters and customer service representatives from our carriers including CIG, Allied, Mercury, and First American Specialty among others. I also handled general office support, opening and routing mail, processing payments, copying, faxing, and updating files. From 2001-2003 I worked here when school was not in session. I was hired full-time in May of 2003 upon my graduation.
