Throughout my life, I have had many experiences that have fostered a passion to live and work abroad. Growing up, my parents valued traveling to experience history/culture and took trips to Europe and most of the states often. These experiences as a child led to being nominated as a People to People Ambassador where I traveled with a group of students to different countries and represented the U.S. Later, I participated in a German exchange program through school and had the opportunity to attend gymnasium in Greven, Germany for three weeks with a host family. All of these experiences have encouraged me to travel even more, find new things and try them so that I can incorporate them into teaching and learning with others. Currently, I am studying at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance for my Master’s in Music Education and Performance. Previously, I was an orchestra teacher with Burlington Area School District in Wisconsin, USA for three years. Before starting with BASD, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where I received my Bachelor of Music Education-instrumental with a certificate in adaptive music (working with students with disabilities.) During my time as a student and over the past couple of years I have furthered my education by attending: Wisconsin Music Education Association Conference, Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Comprehensive Musicianship by Performance workshop (CMP), and a String Pedagogy class with Mimi Zweig at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. In the course of earning my degrees and the first three years of my career, I have developed and continue to evolve my current teaching philosophy; The purpose of education is to experience learning intellectually, socially, culturally and personally, as well as developing critical thinking skills. Music Education fits into the larger purpose of education as it creates another facet for developing these skills holistically.
