• Demonstrated vision and leadership in: strengthening existing programs, expanding language offerings, acquiring internal and external funding for additional staffing, supporting professional development of faculty, pursuing proficiency-based articulation of curriculum, building positive working relationships with other units/colleges on campus, creating connections to the community, reaching out to feeder programs at the secondary level. • Eleven years as a department head; nearly 30 years teaching experience at a variety of American academic institutions, from competitive private to R-1 to regional state institutions, 5+ cumulative years living or working in Germany, four of those in Berlin, all in an academic context. • Served as administrative head of an academic unit consisting of 17 FT faculty, 1 staff member and 10 PT faculty and TAs. Responsible for day-to-day operations: accreditation reporting, budgeting, curriculum, grant writing, scheduling, strategic planning, personnel management, student recruitment, program development, cultural events, and public relations for the academic unit.• A range of teaching experience on campus and abroad; regular updates through professional development; new course development and implementation of technologies that foster the five C’s of language learning. • Skills: leadership, scholarship, vision, planning, organization, communication, presentational abilities, event coordination, persuasive writing, problem-solving, teamwork, conflict resolution.• Character: creative, diplomatic, energetic, innovative, growth mindset, proactive, positive.
