About Laura Ipsen
Change. Just the idea makes most people squirm and ask why? That was certainly my son’s reaction when my husband and I talked with our children about leaving California and moving to Virginia. After more than 25 years in Silicon Valley, taking the position of President & CEO of Ellucian is not just a big change for me, but for our family, friends and colleagues. I am thankful to have a loving family that trusts and supports me in this new role. Silicon Valley taught me about the power of innovation to “change the world,” a mantra I heard often from then Cisco CEO John Chambers, a luminary in the Valley and my mentor for over two decades. I have been fortunate to work for premier high tech companies such as Cisco, Microsoft and Oracle, where I led businesses that shaped the future of energy, cities, education, healthcare and banking. Those experiences have given me the insights and skillset to focus on what really matters in this age of reinvention in the cloud. At Ellucian I am committed to providing the next generation of innovation for colleges and universities, recognizing that every dollar must count toward creating better experiences for faculty, administrators and students. Joining Ellucian is a bit of a homecoming for me. My parents spent their entire careers in higher ed and shared their passion for education and lifelong learning. They instilled in me a leadership perspective that’s been reinforced at almost every stop on my career: In order to lead, you have to learn; and in order to learn, you have to listen. It’s a philosophy I strive to emulate in my work with our people, our institutions, and the educational mission we serve – and it’s an approach that helps ensure that customers’ needs always come first.
