“Is she your star pupil?”“No. But she works hard.” Difficult to overhear. This was my ballet mistress, I was aged 21.I wanted to be a star, not a grafter! Having been quite academic at school, (The competitor in me meant I was sometimes top of the class, but I was never ‘brilliant’); I went against everyone’s expectations and instead of going to University, at the age of 19, I bought a house in Leeds with my boyfriend, and decided that I wanted to dance. A mix of optimism, ambition, stubbornness, proving people wrong and making things difficult for myself – got me into a 3 year college course, and 2 part-time jobs to pay for the fees and my mortgage. To my dance teacher’s surprise (and my own), I did get some dance jobs. I wasn’t that good at remembering the steps but if I worked every evening after rehearsals, by next day I’d be caught up with everyone else. (This did make auditions particularly daunting)Dancing came first for the next 10 years. I travelled, never making any plans.I dreaded the end of a contract when I would be back in the UK having to find somewhere to live (the house was gone by then) and back into auditions – and the 95%+ rejection rate. I’m now in my second life – some say 'second career', but I really do feel like it was another life. Why even mention first life? It says more ‘about me’ than “I used to dance.” Saying “I used to dance” makes people think that I must be a brilliant dancer. I’m not.But I will work on it, until I’ve raised my standard, and this requires you to be stubborn, obsessive even, willing to sacrifice, and have a strong belief that you can be the best. And if you can’t, you had a bloody good try.It was a relief to find out that I actually could be the occasionally 'great' in my second life. So, things have been much easier since then. I am obsessed with LinkedIn, love nothing more than discovering new features, techniques and algorithm changes. I love training sales people and business owners to use LinkedIn for prospecting.I try new things, test, learn and believe.Do I always get it right? No.But you can guarantee one thing. I never give up, I will put in the hard graft, and I'll get there in the end.------ If you'd like to geek out about LinkedIn with me, or just have someone do it for you, give me a shout. InvestorWork For Good Uk Oct 2016 - May 2023Having used the platform to donate a % of revenue to charity, I liked the way Work For Good involved your clients in your charity giving. As most businesses want their employees and customers to be engaged in the way that they give back, I wanted to support Work For Good in their journey to help more businesses to give back.I have done this in several ways -1. Invested money to help them develop the platform2. Talked publicly about how businesses should give now, not wait until they have more profit, or are more mature3. Provided Pitch121 service at 'cost'I was delighted to meet a business owner in March 2020 who set up their business to give money off the top line rather than the bottom line inspired by a video interview he seen a few years before.Work For Good goes from strength to strength, so if you are a business wanting to give back, they make it easy to give any amount, any frequency to any charity. -

Business DevelopmentSopro - Social Prospecting Apr 2016 - Aug 2018London, United KingdomSister company to Pitch121, part of the G33k Group, SoPro helps sales focused businesses identify and engage with qualified prospects using email prospecting techniques. Business DevelopmentCapen Ltd Nov 2016 - Dec 2017London, United KingdomThis was a freelance assignment that was extended so we worked together for over a year.Prize-led fundraising is a mature market with players with poor online offering, so I was selling a 'challenger' in the market and it went very well. Particularly challenging to get into, I opened doors and grew opportunity in the NHS charity sector.I started using LinkedIn in a more systematic way, tracking and measuring which led us to our Pitch121 product.

Global Head Of CharitiesPowa Technologies Nov 2014 - Apr 2016London, United KingdomThe first contract signed for PowaTag was a charity, and I continued to close deals with many of the biggest charities in the UK. As the global teams were hired, I was required to share my learning and train on PowaTag to the teams in Germany, France, Italy, Nordics and the US.I represented charity needs globally with product roadmap.Charities could use the technology on websites, posters, in magazines, and it was my charity client that was the first organisation to utilise the technology on live national TV. -
Senior Business Development ManagerPowa Technologies Ltd Feb 2014 - Apr 2016London, United KingdomA partner from Axonn (Adfero) was Venda. My Venda contact, Steve, was in a meeting at Powa, and was asked, who do we know that knows the charity sector. He called me up, and I thought I was going in to discuss a partner deal, and it was actually an interview with 4 people.I didn't want to leave Axonn, but my journey with the biggest Start Up of all time was destined to start.I was no longer doing clever consultative selling. I was just showing a 5 second demo, and people were amazed, we were magicians! This job had me hosting a party with Sinitta, pitching to the CEO of Tesco, Greggs, and launching the very first TV campaign where you can instantly donate through your phone, triggered by the advert. It was an adventure.City AM. called it "The Biggest Start Up Failure of all time" - but that's another story.Paying and donating through mobile has not progressed and matured since this time, but it is coming. -

Head Of NewsreachAxonn Media May 2012 - Sep 2013London, United KingdomI was at a conference, and just happened to be on the stand next to my old friends at Axonn (previously Adfero)Fergus said he needed a new sales manager for the team looking after Enterprise sales so seeing a career progression I went back to my old company managing a team with mixed results.I read books on how to manage, and run effective training sessions, I led by example and my proudest moment was closing 4 deals on the day AFTER the Christmas party to hit Q4 target (When everyone else was nursing a bad head). -
Business Development & Account ManagerChameleon (Digital Communications) Oct 2010 - Apr 2012London, United KingdomI partnered with Chamelon on a big pitch at Bluhalo - gyro.At the time I didn't have a clue what I was doing so I was surprised and rather pleased with myself that Chameleon approached me to work with their team.I was doing 360 sales from lead generation, to pitching new business and working with the team on early delivery. I used social media a lot, and we did some great seminars to start relationships with new companies. We went out networking. A lot. -
Business Development Manager For Bluhalo - Digital ArmGyro Feb 2010 - Oct 2010FarnboroughI came back from travelling with an empty bank account, hoping I'd quickly find work. I made one tweet, and Spencer Gallagher tweeted back, "Come and work for us"!It was a baptism of fire in learning how to do big competitive pitches, pitching in partnerships, how to do all-nighters, and have 2 days to do something you need 3 weeks for.A new MD came along and together we were able to win some exciting new clients. -
Sabbatical - TravellingNot Working Nov 2009 - Feb 2010South America2009 was a tough year. So, I came home in October and suggested to my husband Pat that we should spend the £5k we had saved towards a house deposit savings on a travelling trip. As Pat had gone along with the house saving plan (my idea) and then gone along with this new plan (my idea) which meant closing his business, he got to choose where we would go, and so we went to South America!A slightly rocky start when I accidentally left the passports in the local shop meant we had to pretend we had left for one day, hiding at home, and heading off one day later.A great time was had, favourite places being Buenos Aires (for the dancing and wine), La Paz (for the football, and great breakfasts), Isla de Margarita, Venezuela (for the happy hour cocktails, friends and adventure)

Partnerships And Business Development ManagerAxonn Media Jul 2008 - Nov 2009A natural tendency to be nice to the people I was selling to, and putting in extra effort to pipeline rather than just taking the 'quick wins' (aka doing more work than was necessary) made me the natural choice to lead the new 'Partnerships Department'.With Fergus as my boss, in Nov 2009 when I threw in the towel, he said memorably;"If you couldn't make it work, no-one could."(Apparently lots of partners came back after my departure, with client deals for us without prompting them. It just happened I'd put in the groundwork, and we needed to give it a bit more time!) -
Business Development ManagerAxonn Media Dec 2006 - Jun 2008Having discovered that B2B sales wasn't as hard as everyone made out, I joined Axonn (then Adfero) with a romantic notion that I was working for a newsagency based in Canary Wharf. (well, nearly, South Quay, just down the road). As it was, it was a big commute from Edgware, so I used to set off v. early as we started at 8.30am and it really wasn't acceptable to be late - ever. Telemarketing was in its hey day, we would be travelling the length and breadth of the country to meet business owners that couldn't remember why we were meeting, but following a pre-made sales process, (largely put together by Fergus Parker, of later fame as my co-founder and conspirator at Pitch121) - these businesses signed deals, lots of them.It was a tough environment as the other men in the large sales team were very self-assured, the hot leads were given to those that wouldn't waste them (until you proved yourself) and I was just getting used to wearing a suit. I worked hard on the process no matter how uncomfortable it made me feel, quietly got myself to the top of the leaderboard. -
In-Gym B2C Membership Sales - Promoted To B2B Corporate Sales In The HqLa Fitness Oct 2004 - Nov 2006I made company history by selling the most number of 'kit bags' to new members. The glory of being the 'kit bag queen' and working 60 hour weeks to hit my sales figures. (While unscrupulous sales people nicked your 'walk-ins') got me shortlisted to be interviewed for 'Sales Person of the Year'.I won, and did a great acceptance speech. I had been spotted by HQ! (Cemented by some dance moves which were bold enough to never be forgotten)When a job came up on the Corporate side for twice the salary, it was a walk in the park. And so began my journey in B2B sales. (Which, as it turned out was way easier than B2C!) -
Professional DancerDancing - Various Agents Jun 1997 - Sep 2004London, Dubai, Greece, Cruise ShipsI went to Dorothy Stevens in Lightcliffe, Halifax, for 3 years full-time, and became a dancer where people would actually pay me to dance, mainly in choreographed shows. I was choreographer for occasional shows when the agents were being lazy.Highlights were performing in The Alhambra, Bradford, and in Dubai for one-off gigs with ATB and Artful Dodger - both performing at the height of their popularity, to crowds of 5k+On the Artful Dodger gig, I'd had some free wine backstage, and during their hit, "And the crowd say bo, selecta!" I grabbed the table leg to steady myself during an ambitious dance move and made the record jump. Instead of finally becoming famous, I was infamous, and most definitely not invited to the after party.
