Laura Kay Dunbar has developed something new with The Akeena Group, an architecture and construction firm created with a focus on collaboration. With over 30 years of experience, Laura excels at designing and delivering spaces that work. She has built a reputation around listening to her clients, skillfully interpreting their needs and eagerly collaborating with them to bring their dreams to reality. Her keen eye for design allows her to make small, but innovative, changes that result in spaces her clients can enjoy for years to come. After graduating with an Architectural degree, Laura was awarded her Architectural License and designed custom homes for over 30 years. The last 10 years, her firm has expanded into the commercial and industrial arena. Since receiving her General Contractor’s License in 2009, Laura has the ability to oversee the entire design and construction process from conception to completion. From early, proactive planning with clients to skilled problem solving along the way, Laura deftly maneuvers her clients to successful outcomes they never could have dreamed would be so easy or enjoyable. Growing up in Pasadena immersed Laura in exquisite residential design and fine detailing, which remains a passion to this day. She is an avid racquetball player; frequent competitor of the Warrior Dash obstacle courses; and loves to hike the Sierras. Previously a member of the Ventura City Planning Commission, she continues to participate Downtown Rotary, the League of Extraordinary Women and WEV, along with NAWBO. But most of all, she is driven to continually refine the design and construction process to make each and every project a success along with a positive experience for the client and the user.
