• Conduct brief screenings on patients admitted to Silver Cross Hospital. Screenings include PHQ-2, PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionnaire to screen for depression), AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), and DAST (Drug Abuse Screening Test).• Based on patients’ screening results, several responses may be given. Education concerning National Institute of Health recommended guidelines for alcohol consumption may be given to patients to help them become more aware of potential negative effects of their substance use.• Patients may also receive a brief intervention and motivational interviewing to help them reflect on their desire to change behaviors concerning substance use.• Patients who score in the higher risk category can receive referrals to treatment for their substance use. Patients can also receive information about support group meetings such as 12 steps and resources such as the Crisis Lines. • Patients can also receive assistance with mental health treatment such as referrals to psychiatrists/therapists. • Compose documentation in patients’ charts reflecting the results of the screenings as well as any recommendations given.
