My work brings together my experience in sustainability and nutrition, and focuses on food system transformation for improved health and environmental outcomes. Currently based in the Social Impact Team at IGD, focusing on Health and Sustainable Diets. My PhD research at the Centre for Food Policy is part of the UK Food Systems Centre for Doctoral Training, which provides a unique opportunity for transformative, collaborative and interdisciplinary food systems research to lead the UK towards a resilient, healthy and inclusive food future. I'm focusing on the role of the UK retail sector in supporting an increase in the production and consumption of beans, peas and other pulses. I am a Chartered Environmentalist with twenty years’ professional experience in sustainability management and consulting across the public, private and voluntary sectors. My key roles included driving change in large organisations, developing, implementing and evaluating the strategic approach to sustainability in major UK infrastructure projects, UK government, international property portfolios and investment funds. In recognition that the food we eat has an enormous impact on our planet, combined with my preoccupation with the benefits of good nutrition for health (and running ultramarathons), a sidestep into food was a perfect fit. Prior to starting my PhD, I studied Postgraduate Clinical Nutrition, focusing on the pivotal role played by what we eat in promoting long-term good health.
