Profile bio

About Laura Hope

NHS job and Degree information. My experience working in the NHS for the last three years has taught me the importance of healthcare while igniting my passion for the industry. Specifically, I have been working as a radiology assistant where my role consists of coordination, patient handling, using NHS equipment, and maintaining the standards of the department. I am also completing a high-class degree in Psychology. My NHS experience includes a lot of patients who need scans for brain injuries. I find these cases interesting so decided to choose modules around clinical and neuropsychology during my undergraduate degree. I hope that when I complete my degree I can continue these areas of interest during my future career. Other work experience roles. My role as an RDA has taught me a lot about the professional world and has allowed me to grow in confidence as a person. Before this, I volunteered in a Mind charity shop as part of my Duke of Edinburgh award. From that, I gained retail experience which allowed me to develop customer service skills. Some of my responsibilities involved pricing stock, organising the shop, working at the cash register and helping the general public. This was a vital role for me as it gave me some transferable skills I still use in my job. I learnt how to find solutions to problems such as figuring out an alternative way to attach prices to clothing when the label tag machine broke. This allowed us to progress through donation piles instead of waiting for a new machine to be delivered. As part of a work experience module, I shadowed a manager across five waste management sites. I decided to try out an industry I wouldn’t otherwise experience in order to expand my knowledge of different types of professions. During this time I visited five different sites interviewing the employees about their job roles. I witnessed the manual exertion of the job when the workers have to move heavy objects to the appropriate site and work on potentially dangerous machinery. Some examples of how they combat this is having appropriate up to date training, a robust reporting scheme, constant employee feedback and frequent meetings. Learning about how the managers maintain safety standards and support their employees through their physically demanding jobs allowed me to understand the importance of effective communication, support and teamwork on site. From this, I wrote about what I found in a portfolio assignment for university. I really enjoyed my time there learning about management strategies which have brought that company great success.
