Teaching:Employ innovative approaches, such as persuasive story-telling and multimodal communication deisgn, to teach organizational communication. Use a critical approach to teach Intercultural Communication to students majoring in business and international studies. Administrative:As Course Coordinator, design curriculum to support the School's mission regarding creativity and creative problem solving and to reflect current best practices in business communication. Engage in field research to identify best practices and forge collaborative relationships with local organizations and VCU alums. Support instructors teaching 12 sections of Organizational Communication to maintain curricular consistency and provide professional development training, including workshops on curricular approaches to teaching business communication. Assist with School-wide assessment of written and oral communication skills. Research & Publications:Current research explores the ways in which leaders use storytelling and mental models to develop shared understandings of their organization's problems and opportunities and to facilitate and coordinate their followers' activities and engagement. Recent publications consider a distributed cognition approach to heroes and heroic leaders in organizations, the viability of open educational resources in higher education and "environmental sustainability" rhetoric on institutional websites as a form of propaganda.
