Responsible for developing the strategy and designing the infrastructure to support the University’s effort to reframe its relationship with its neighbors, city government, regional civic leaders and community partners. This work involved designing and launching a new Office of Community Engagement, serving as a principal architect and primary contact for the Georgetown Community Partnership, developing the stakeholder engagement plan for the University’s master planning process, and identifying and cultivating projects and community partners to advance the vision of the university as an anchor institution in the District of Columbia.

Coordinated institution-wide strategic initiatives, particularly those related to the University’s engagement with the District of Columbia, campus planning and development, collegiate athletics, and issues of college access and success; oversaw the University’s Ward 7 Initiative, a University-wide initiative focused on strengthening partnerships with Ward 7 schools, community organizations, and other partners to build a broad network of support for Ward 7 children and families; and assisted in developing policy and resolving issues related to athletics, safety, and student affairs.

As one of the University’s senior in-house attorneys, provided advice on a range of legal and policy issues related to student life, academics and welfare. Served as the primary counsel for the offices of student affairs, athletics, admissions, financial aid, and university safety on all three campuses, and also frequently advised the offices of mission and ministry, advancement, and the academic deans in the undergraduate colleges and three professional schools. Worked closely with senior leaders and representatives from many departments to resolve complex issues and to implement strategic programming and priorities. Recognized with increasing levels of responsibility and promotion during tenure: hired as Staff Counsel in 2002 and promoted to Assistant Counsel in 2003, Associate Counsel in 2006, and Senior Associate Counsel in 2009.

Served in a variety of capacities, including seven years in board leadership at the Academy of Hope, a non-profit organization that provides education and work force training services to at-risk adults. As board president from 2005-2008, led the search for a new executive director, while managing a year-long interim period; supervised the search for and move to a new facility; oversaw the expansion of services to multiple locations in the District and a substantial increase in the organization’s revenues.
