Overseeing the running of the University’s four Intramural Netball leagues, liaising with umpires, team captains, sports centre staff and representatives from England Netball.

This was a voluntary position alongside studying for my degree where I spent 4 hours a week working on a variety of tasks. One of my main responsibilities was helping with the university’s intramural and inter-halls programmers.

San Diego And Chicago

I spent 10 weeks in Southern California in Summer 2013 and 10 weeks in Chicago in Summer 2014 coaching football to children aged 3-16. This has helped me to develop my confidence, communication skills and self reliance and also gave me the experience of interacting with different types of people as not only was I in another country but I moved around each week staying with different families in different locations. During this time I was involved in coaching children with a wide range of ages and abilities, ensuring health and safety rules were followed, promoting the organisation and liaising with parents and carers in addition to my daily responsibilities at the football camps. In my second year with the company I was a camp director and alongside my coaching duties was responsible for allocating and advising staff and communicating with the regional directors to ensure they were kept informed of any relevant issues. I promoted the company and networked with local coordinators to encourage them to sign up to host a camp again.

This was a position of great responsibility which I thoroughly enjoyed and has helped me to develop a number of skills such as leadership, communication, decision making and administration. I was responsible for the running of the club and overseeing the rest of the committee as well as ensuring all club paperwork such as health and safety forms and the club code of conduct is up to date. I also completed a club development plan which involved identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the club and looked into areas for development. I was responsible for hiring a coach for the 3rd team and so had to advertise the position using social media and our local FA website and I then worked with the 3rd team captain to go through the applications and choose the coaches we wished to trial and then choose the final coach.As the most senior member of the committee I attended a number of meetings to discuss the club and university sport in general which I particularly enjoy and this has enabled me to gain a greater understanding of university sport.

I was in charge of promoting the development side of the club and making sure there were opportunities for all levels of players as well as choosing the 3rd team and being in charge of match day tactics and substitutions. This was the first season that the club had a 3rd team so we were not yet in a league, therefore part of my role was to arrange friendlies with other teams and organise 5-a-side matches. This required me to research who were the relevant contacts at other universities and then to liaise with them to arrange dates and find available pitches. This role enabled me to develop a number of skills such as communication and leadership. Due to the success of the 3rd team while I was captain, we were allowed by the union to enter the team into the BUCS league for the 2013/2014 season.

I was responsible for organising weekly social events for the club which meant looking after large groups of people and communicating well with them. I was also responsible for ensuring 30 members of the club safely enjoyed a week long tournament in Croatia which was a great success. I enjoyed working alongside the other Social Secretaries in making freshers feel welcome and encouraging all members to participate fully in all aspects of the club.

Key tasks included housekeeping, dealing with student enquiries and checking student rooms for damage.
