As the coordinator of the Peer Educators Program and as a Case manager, I worked closely with many youth migrant populations in Washington D.C. The goal of the program was to support teenagers in making educated choices regarding sexual activity as well as social and domestic violence. As a research assistant I support the design and implementation of qualitative research activities such as the design of the tools, definition of the population and recruitment activities, next to reporting of the findings and recommendation for policy making involving youth houses programs. The research projects included : Drug use, trafficking and violence in gangs in low income communities of Bogota.In my second year at the program I proposed and carried out a complementary research project called: "Appointing Identities and Artistic Youth in Ciudad Bolivar". This was a cultural characterization of youth subcultures in low income areas of Bogota such as Ciudad Bolivar. The research with focus in social capital of the sector providing insightful opportunities for government concrete actions to meet the needs of the communities. This research project was published was the Comite Ecomonomico para Latinoamerica (CEPAL) from the United Nations due to its innovative yet effective way to understand and empower youth.
