As part of a developmental opportunity, I worked to expand my knowledge in a regulated manufacturing industry. This position allowed me to observe different areas of the business while also improving upon my project management and technical writing skills. In this role I led projects including optimization of the hazardous waste program (with $10,000+ CAD in savings per year), personal noise dosimetry data collection and analysis, implementation of a carcinogen control program and led ergonomics activities. Lastly, in this role I demonstrated strong leadership skills while facilitating several teams at the site including: the Machine Guarding Team, the Ergonomics Committee, and the Workplace Inspections Team as a part of the Joint Health & Safety Committee.

Following my co-op terms and receiving my B.Eng, I was promoted to lead safety remediation projects as an Engineering Project Manager, EIT. In this role I effectively managed projects with a key focus on machine safety, guarding and ergonomics. These safety remediation projects ensured safety compliance at the site by adhering to Ontario safety regulations as well as J&J internal standards. This led me to become the safety expert within the Engineering department. In addition to safety projects, I also managed capital projects up to $250,000 CAD for new equipment in Processing and Packaging. Collaboration with key stakeholders such as Quality, Technical Operations, Processing, Packaging, Maintenance, Facilities, Finance, Procurement and Planning was important for successful project implementations.

As a Technical Writer I supported the Engineering Safety Remediation Team through equipment safety risk assessments, equipment qualifications, change controls, standard operating procedures (SOP), training, management of drawings and request for quote (RFQ) documentation. I further developed my project management skills through organization of equipment validation activities to successfully meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

I was first introduced to the pharmaceutical and manufacturing industry of over the counter medications through supporting the Quality Systems Team with critical documentation. I was responsible for implementation and obsolescence of standard operating procedures (SOP) and laboratory test procedures throughout the site. This position gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of following GMP guidelines and ensuring documentation is up-to-date and accurate.

In this role I traveled throughout southern Ontario to collect samples under strict protocol using aseptic sampling techniques. I maintained a strong work ethic while working independently and thoroughly planned my weekly sampling plan to maximize efficiency. I further developed my communication and interpersonal skills as I engaged with clients and employed conflict resolution techniques as needed.

My passion for swimming drove me to become a Lifeguard. As an Instructor Lifeguard I led swimming lessons to the Canadian Red Cross standard and evaluated swimming skills. I used my lifeguarding and first aid training to effectively supervise multiple pools with a team of lifeguards. At the end of my first season I was awarded Rookie of the Summer for best new Instructor Lifeguard in the City of London.
