About Laura Scrivano
Laura Scrivano is an Italian-Australian filmmaker based in London. Her debut feature as writer-director, Ring Road is currently packaging with Silver Salt Films (Censor) and RVK Studios (Trapped, Everest, The Oath). It was shortlisted for Sundance Screenwriters' Lab 2021 and awarded early development funding from the BFI Network.Laura most recently directed the final four episodes of comedy action thriller Wedding Season for Disney + / Hulu which has been nominated for Best Comedy at the Broadcast Awards. Prior to that she directed two episodes of sci-fi drama The Lazarus Project by Joe Barton which premiered on Sky Max / Now TV to critical acclaim and was shortlisted for a Rose D'Or for drama. Her other credits include A Wilderness of Mirrors, the second feature length episode in the first season of McDonald & Dodds (ITV/Britbox) - for which she was nominated for Debut Director at Edinburgh TV Festival's 2021 New Voice Awards, HANNA for Amazon/Working Title (2nd unit) and award-winning short film Alice starring Sarah Snook (Succession). Commercial spots include work for the FA, Sky, Bumble, NHS, Budweiser, Scouts UK and Instagram. Born in a small coastal mining town on Dharawal land in NSW, Laura was raised on a mix of early 90s blockbusters, Australian gothic masterpieces and European avant garde - from Back to the Future to Bicycle Thieves, Picnic at Hanging Rock to Twin Peaks, Labyrinth to La Jetée. She began her career in theatre, directing productions at Belvoir St, Australian Theatre for Young People and Opera Australia; and creating digital content for Sydney Theatre Company under the artistic directorship of Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton.Laura’s work has been described as ‘beautifully honest’ (The Guardian), ‘mind blowing’ (The Times), ‘groundbreaking’ (Sydney Morning Herald), and ‘inspirational’ (PromoNews). She was named as "Ones to Watch" for the Edinburgh TV Festival 2020-2021. A graduate of the Australian Film, Television & Radio School (AFTRS) in both directing and screenwriting, her shorts have screened at festivals internationally, including BFI Flare, Sundance, Oberhausen, Aesthetica, Cyprus Film Days, Cinema des Antipodes at Festival de Cannes and New York Fashion Week.She is represented by 42 Management (UK) and Kaplan/Perrone (US) for Film and TV and Missing Link Films for Commercials.
