JM Goldson specializes in collaborative and creative planning that help communities through complex land use planning and visioning efforts, community preservation planning, and spatial analytics and data visualization.

The Town Planner is responsible for updating the Master Plan, and reviewing new development, site plans, and zoning changes. I also prepare planning studies and reports, statistical data, maps, and act as a liaison between the public, community groups, developers, businesses, and the town government.

Using WTE facilities as a vehicle, this research lab proposes to re-engage interdisciplinary design and architecture with industrial buildings and facilities. WTE Research Lab conducts design research on novel and effective ways to rethink the relationship of architecture and waste. Involved with many aspects of the publication Architecture and Waste: A (Re)Planned Obsolescence - including project management, writing, research, some graphics, and layout.

The Health and Places Initiative (http://research.gsd.harvard.edu/hapi/) project investigates how to create healthier cities in the future. Bringing together experts from the Harvard Graduate School of Design (HGSD) and the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), it creates a forum for understanding the multiple issues that face cities in light of rapid urbanization, climate change, and an aging population worldwide. Co-authored a book titled, Creating Healthy Neighborhoods: Evidence-based Planning and Design Strategies. Also wrote a chapter in Lifestyled Health and Places.

Involved with several projects that include, but are not limited to: sustainable neighborhood indicators, PARK(ing) Day in Cambridge, climate change vulnerability and climate change adaptation.

I collected and analyzed statistics as related to graduate students and programs before it can be used for reporting. Finally, I took the lead on designing and implementing surveys for various purposes including surveying applicants and potential applicants who attend information sessions and open houses on campus or online. I also planned and managed an internal graduate student research expo with over 200 participants.

Conducted statistical analysis on the success (or lack) of European Union refugee asylum policies over the past decade. Are refugees being accepted fairly across the European Union? Have they been getting more "fairly distributed" over time? Research presented at the London School of Economics in July 2010. Co-authored paper accepted to the Journal of European Union Politics in December 2011.

The role involved working closely with the Departmental Manager in handling the administrative needs of the department. I had a specific responsibility for all Undergraduate related administration and departmental communication and marketing strategies, both internal and external.

Conducted national benchmarking, special event planning, writing best practices reports, and creating $900,000 fundraising proposals. I have managed increasing responsibility for the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Development and Vice Chancellor of Advancement, as well as working with University Trustees.

Conducted prospect research to further the fundraising efforts on campus through timely, accurate and informative analysis of non-profit Foundations.
