I'm the architect and leader of the Home Ownership Means Equity (HOME) initiative, a multi-year movement to transform the economic trajectory of Latinos through homeownership. The HOME initiative leverages policy, research, communications, and community-based strategies to influence systemic change to enable the creation of four million new Latino.

I led enterprise strategic efforts to develop public policy positions relating to consumer banking, consumer lending, and community reinvestment. This included monitoring developments on Capitol Hill and with the financial regulators including the CFPB, FDIC, Federal Reserve, and the OCC. My accomplishments include the submission of regulatory comment.

Prior to my promotion, I led public policy strategy on mortgage servicing regulations and legislation. I built a public policy assessment framework that integrated views from operations, finance, customer experience, legal and risk. I also represented the industry on mortgage servicing as Vice Chair and then Chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association Loan.

During the Great Recession, I helped develop and implement solutions to the foreclosure crisis. As part of a small team, I helped lead the overhaul of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the GSEs) mortgage servicing products and policies. For my contributions, FHFA leadership selected me as one of two recipients of FHFA’s inaugural Excellence in Government.

During my tenure at ProsperityNow, I served a dual public policy and program management role. I established an advocacy strategy on behalf of owners of manufactured homes. This included a comment letter campaign that resulted in hundreds of homeowners submitting their perspectives on FHFA rulemaking.I also helped establish a new program to provide support.

I relocated to China and lived in Beijing for over three years. During this time I held concurrent positions as Community Liaison Officer for the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, and was also co-founder of Livie & Luca, a children’s footwear company. After returning to the U.S., I continued my involvement with Livie & Luca until 2010.

I advised nonprofit and local government clients on legislation, appropriations, and regulations. At its establishment, I helped develop one of the first curriculums and training programs on the New Markets Tax Credit.

I co-authored the first successful proposal to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funding a national network of housing counselors focused on promoting first-time homeownership in the Latino community. I also co-wrote the successful Community Development Financial Institution certification application to the U.S. Treasury that established.
