Substitute Teacher
I worked as a substitute teacher in kindergarten through high school classes from September 2017 through January 2018. In January 2018, I began work as a long-term substitute for biology and honors biology classes at Southridge High School. From August 2018 through January 2019, I long-termed for geometry and biology as well as part-time in a SPED math classroom at Southridge. In January 2019, I took over honors biology and earth science classes at Southridge. During the 2018-2019 school year I supported other substitutes in the biology classrooms by setting up the curriculum, printing the needed documents, putting together tests, and making keys.
South Sound Reading Foundation Literacy And Learning Engagment Coordinator
With the South Sound Reading Foundation, I worked throughout Thurston and Mason Counties in Washington State to keep youth engaged and interested in reading and learning. I helped develop STEM Programming that linked with reading of non-fiction, including discussing with the Board how to better the resources available to future AmeriCorps. I also gave away free books, handing out over 20,000 books in the time that I was with the foundation. In addition, I tutored students with at-risk reading levels at a local elementary school, helping the school to improve kindergarten reading levels from about 50% below standard to only 1 child by the end of the year. Lastly, I coordinated all South Sound Reading Foundation volunteers. With over 300 volunteers in one year, I helped increase military family participation, improve overall volunteer hours, and streamline the way in which volunteers are tracked.
Substitute Teacher
I have substituted for physical education and art classrooms.
Adelante! Program Coordinator
Through AmeriCorps, I worked with "I Have a Dream" and Adelante! at Boulder High School helping Dreamers and Adelante! students, regardless of their documentation status, become achievers. My best hours were spent aiding students with homework so that they may reach their full potential and, if they so choose, attend college. I also spent time in Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) classrooms and a Front Range Community College classroom.During the summer months, I worked with the College and Career Department at "I Have a Dream." I supervised students of all ages during classes and activities at the University of Colorado Boulder. I also aided in college visits for all ages of students.
Resident Assistant
I helped first year university students transition into college life. There were monthly floor meetings lead by me, as well as conflict resolution sessions between friends which I facilitated to be sure that everyone was heard. At times students would need more individualized support, either academic or personal, and I was always there in their time of need. The best part of the job, though, was walking the buildings once or twice a week and being able to see everyone to make personal connections with more than just the folks on my floor.
Student Worker For Dining Services
With Dining Services, I prepped food, stocked the serveries, and cashiered. I prided myself in having exceptional customer service, always going above and beyond to make the customer happy. My stations were always clean, well stocked, and organized, and I was one of the fastest employed cashiers.I worked both in teams and independently, occasionally teaching others the proper procedures.
