I help subject matter experts create marketable literary property. Whether working from interviews notes, or draft manuscripts, we work collaboratively to create first, second, and final drafts, book proposals, queries, and pitches (Wambtac process, Chicago Manual of Style.) HOW RESULTS HAPPEN Most authors' first book takes years. Working with a GPDP certified ghostwriter you'll be ready to submit for publication usually in 6 to 12 months. Books are built like homes. Draw up plans, assemble raw materials, create the foundation-- that's the first draft. Rough carpentry, mechanicals, drywall--that's the substantive-edited second draft. Finish carpentry, roofing, flooring, painting, furnishing, decorating--that's copy and musical line edited final draft. First party in the new home--that's your book launch! Your role: author and subject matter expert. My role: facilitate the process. Uderstand your vision and ideas; crystalize, polish, and produce viable literary property that grabs and holds the reader from first to last sentence; convey your message, succinctly, in your voice, to the right readers; gain all the attention your idea deserves in the market. Most of my clients go the traditional publishing route, I have also helped indie-publishing start-ups and self publishers create and execute winning property and strategies. Always happy to talk with you, whatever your goals!PAST PROJECTSHealing memoir, biographies, self-help, business books, spiritual, and children’s books. My dream projects: uplifting and inspiring memoirs of positive transformation, for people, businesses, and companies. LET’S GET STARTED!Help me prepare for your free Book Strategy Session by completing a Book Project Goals Questionnaire (very short, you get a copy of results, strictly confidential) at: http://bit.ly/BookProjQ. Technically I still offer this, but not as active business anymore. (If I could clone myself though, I still would!! Something had to go!) I love science, the natural world, sustainability, and business as a force for good in the world. When I discovered how pure essential oils brought pain relief to a dear relative recovering from a tick-borne illness--and then I learned more about doTERRA the company--I said, WOW. Count me IN! doTERRA is THE gold standard in pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils. doTERRA's CPTG Lavender oil passed all the hoops by the FDA, first ever EO classed a drug. More than a dozen hospitals including doTERRA Center for Integrative Oncology at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Cincinnati, now use it. A hand massage with doTERRA CPTG Lavender STOPS pre-term labor. That's HUGE. (Note: doTERRA's oils are third-party certified pure therapeutic grade (CPTG) by BATCH--every batch. This is a MUCH higher purity standard than Organic certification, which does annual site assessments. CPTG oil ≠ low-grade retail fragrance oils. The difference is astonishing. You can even look up the chemistry of each batch at SourceToYou dot com.)doTERRA's the drive of the explosion in scientific peer-reviewed mammalian research into new leading-edge understandings of systemic pathways and how cellular functions are affected by natural chemistries. Search PubMed "essential oils and ___". doTERRA scientists publish dozens annually. Plant chemistries are divine gifts and allies created in the laboratory of planet Earth over millions of years of evolution. For a few years I helped about 100 people open wholesale accounts. Alas, my resume writing business boomed during the pandemic and took priority. Am taking time off from building a doTERRA business--but definitely not stopping using or loving the oils! They've been a true lifesaver for my family! Am leaving open the idea of hopping back onto the doTERRA bandwagon in the future. We shall see!

Inventory Control Manager

Milwaukee, Wi

Tracked sales and projected inventory needs for printing and reprinting of hundreds of titles by a major internationally recognized children's book publishing company. That included the industry's first subscription-based program of a 33-book children's science series by Isaac Asimov. Also discovered for the first time my continuing love for designing business forms, which I did with Excel. Believe it or not, I was the Excel guru in those years, even gave lessons to the execs, having been the only person in the company to have read the entire manual. Excel was v 1.0 running on an all-in-one Mac SE connected to an external SCSI hard drive sporting a whopping 20 MB capacity! That was so leading edge, as most were still using 500K floppy disks on the PC and 1 MB discs on the Mac. Our mainframe ran a PICK OS.Gareth Stevens was famous for its meteoric marketing-driven growth. I reported to the SVP of Marketing, and to the President. My role was to serve as liaison between marketing and operations. I worked with departmental leaders to analyze workflows and helped improve interdepartmental communications. I was in charge of annual physical inventories and handled all of the paperwork for international shipments, both inbound and outbound. I was also responsible for setting up all titles in the mainframe and became quite adept at the 10-key, with 10-digit ISBN SKUs. I had one direct report in my role, and one of our big accomplishments was to organize and oversee the move of the company of 350 from the northwest side into the newly-renovated Schlitz Park in downtown Milwaukee, including the warehouse. Not long after the move, the company entered Chapter 11 re-organization. While I was welcome to stay, I took the opportunity to help my assistant get a promotion into my job, and left to launch my own indie book publishing company, a project which at that point I had been involved with on the side, part time for 2 years, called Blue Rose Studio Books.

Mar 1989 - Mar 1992

Operations Manager / Telemarketing Manager

Penworthy Publishing Co./American Media Corp

Milwaukee

I was the first employee of a start-up publishing company, subsidiary of a well-established packager, marketing children's books to schools and libraries in the US. Handled billing, customer service, and warehouse operations. Was promoted to the position of telemarketing manager, overseeing a staff of 20 part-time reps. I wrote sales scripts describing and selling children's book selections to librarians as schools and libraries nationwide. I also hired and trained telemarketers. After the publisher left the firm and the publishing venture was dissolved, I left for an opportunity to help a large and growing well established publishing company, with my intention move from operations into the creative area.

Dec 1986 - Dec 1988

Radio Producer / Reporter

Madison, Wisconsin Area

What started as a volunteer position during college turned into a paid job in the news department. After graduation, I became the producer of the Larry Meiller Show on Wisconsin Public Radio. Sourced, scheduled and pre-interviewed guests for daily 1-hour consumer-oriented talk show. Edited tape. Left for an entry-level opportunity in the book publishing field.I also filled in on air, which frankly terrified me.One achievement was to source and book then-grad-student Patricia McConnell as a guest on the show who became a regular, then ultimately turned into a nationally-syndicated public radio show called "Calling All Pets."
