About Lauren E. Bartlett

Lauren E. Bartlett is Professor and Director of the Human Rights at Home Litigation Clinic at Saint Louis University School of Law. The Human Rights at Home Litigation Clinic focuses on securing fundamental human rights for immigrants and prisoners in the St. Louis region. Through both litigation and projects, Prof. Bartlett's students get the chance to conduct interviews of clients and witnesses; provide legal advice and counseling to clients; draft pleadings; represent clients in court hearings; and interact with human rights legal systems, including U.N. Special Rapporteurs, U.N. Treaty Bodies, or the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.Ms. Bartlett served as the Director of Legal Clinics and Associate Professor of Law at Ohio Northern University College of Law from 2015-2019. Ms. Bartlett directed both the clinic and externship programs at ONU Law, supervising students working on civil legal aid and transactional cases through the clinics, and teaching additional experiential learning courses each semester. From 2011-2015 Ms. Bartlett worked at American University Washington College of Law's Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law, where she was the director of the Local Human Rights Lawyering Project and the Director of Research & Training. Ms. Bartlett has extensive human rights experience, including organizing civil society consultations with the U.S. government in advance of human rights reviews, training and technical assistance to nonprofits incorporating human rights in their work, providing live testimony to the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing after Hurricane Katrina, and participating as a research assistant for a member of the United Nations Committee Against Torture. Ms. Bartlett is a former legal aid attorney and worked at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services from 2008-2011. Ms. Bartlett also co-founded the Louisiana Justice Institute, a nonprofit civil rights legal advocacy organization, where she focused on protecting the rights of persons affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Before obtaining her law degree, Ms. Bartlett worked with non-profit organizations in California, Nepal, Ghana, Bangladesh and India.She received her B.A. from the University of California, Davis, and is a graduate of American University Washington College of Law. Ms. Bartlett was admitted to practice law in California, Louisiana, Missouri, and Ohio.
