Research project tracking long-range transport of aerosols from the 2017 British Columbia megafire. Investigating the relationship between smoke properties and atmospheric properties. Tracking the pathway of the smoke plume that penetrated the stratosphere through deep convection. Processing of 3D atmospheric remote sensing data. Data analysis of Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) systems, specifically NASA’s Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) to track the movement and lifetime of aerosols in the stratosphere.Use of Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory Model (HYSPLIT) to model the trajectory and dispersion of airborne particles.Use of Python and MATLAB software.

Researcher and guide for MareTerra Onlus, tracking bottlenose dolphins in the bay of Alghero, Sardinia. (Italy, June – November 2019)Participation in research projects:1. Assessment of factors influencing variability in bottlenose dolphin whistles.2. Characterisation of the signature whistle repertoire of Mediterranean bottlenose dolphin populations.3. Evaluating the underwater soundscape of different Mediterranean areas.4. Photo-identification and mark-recapture methods to estimate dolphin population structure.Practical and technical activities on board: 1. Use of hydrophone to monitor dolphin communication.2. Driving and navigation of the 4-tonne, 10-metre motorboat during travel and dolphin pod observation employing correct safety procedures.3. Maintenance of boat and correct procedures of mooring and leaving port.4. Assisting of collection and analysis of photo-identification of dolphins.Work as a guide:1. Taking the leading role in presenting the ecology, behaviour and conservation of the bottlenose dolphin to the public.2. Snorkelling guide, informing guests about the observed marine habitats while ensuring the safety of the group.Computer based research:1. Use of Darwin software for identification of animals.2. Use of ArcGIS mapping software to analyse the movement and distribution of dolphin pods.

Involves representing the university and my faculty (School of Natural Sciences) during Open Days, informing the public about the site, facilities and academic courses.

Working as a representative for the Royal National Lifeguard Institution as a 'Face-to-Face' Fundraiser which involved raising awareness of public safety in coastal areas and inland flooding as well as encouraging the public to support the charity financially. I personally raised an estimated lifetime value of £14,580 (up to 5 years) for the charity.
