Expert Technical ReviewerRoyal Navy 2016 - 2017Portsmouth, GbConsultant assignment to provide independent expert review of the Portsmouth Harbour Aid to Navigation system.Key deliverables:- Undertake an independent system architecture review- Certify design compliance to QEC specifications. All was achieved within an extraordinarily short project timeline and under budget.Project Background - The Queen Elizabeth class (QEC) is a class of two aircraft carriers of the United Kingdom's Royal Navy. The lead ship, HMS Queen Elizabeth, was commissioned on 7 December 2017, with an initial operating capability expected in 2018. The second, HMS Prince of Wales, was launched on 21 December 2017, and is planned to be commissioned in 2020. The projected cost of the programme was £6.2 billion.In order to guide safe passage of QEC during its entry to and departure from the Portsmouth Harbour, a system of navigation aids was established. This Aid to Navigation system comprised 53 lanterns, some shore based, others marine buoys self-contained with dual solar power supplies, a tide gauge and an anemometer. Each site can be remotely monitored and controlled from a central position using radio frequency links. To achieve no single point of failure everything was duplicated at a minimum, including solar and radio links. -

The reliability of the entire ANPR authenticated parking system was vital to the owner's customers drive through experience. Any failure would result in catastrophic traffic congestion occurring within minutes.Laurence was trusted to develop and deliver the required software within an extremely tight project timeline. -
