Building on the his history at the Trust Laurence knows what aspects are crucial to the running of the organisation and is currently seeking to improve cross departmental management and build an asset base to improve the Trust's long term stability

Laurence directed a team across the Trust developing new projects and ideas. The team is currently developing the next generation of EU Structural Investment Fund and Interreg VA and VB projects to accompany the up and coming Upstream Thinking projects. Alongside this the team is pushing the Trust into new areas and innovative market mechanisms to bring the true value of our catchments into the wider decision making that goes on across society.

Laurence was put in place as Acting Chief Executive for 12 months during the transitional phase between outgoing and incoming Chief Executives. Within this role Laurence reported the Trust activities and position to the Board of Directors building on the reporting role undertaken during his position as Head of Catchment Management.

Laurence manages a 10 strong team running the Trust’s catchment scale Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) projects and is a consultant within the Trust’s financial trading arm, Ecosystem Service Planning. Laurence's specialisms include modelling ecosystem services and environmental surveying as well as monitoring freshwater habitats. He also has a wealth of experience lecturing and presenting on riparian and catchment resource management issues both regionally, nationally and internationally, as well as carrying out catchment research through his work with several Universities. Laurence has also bid successfully for local, national and international funds to help carry out and manage several important environmental habitat regeneration projects including several multi–million pound PES projects. He also has 8 years on the ground experience working with farmers to help change their management techniques. Coupled with this, Laurence has experience designing communication tools and interpretation strategies, which has developed out of his background in teaching secondary school science. The PES projects managed by Laurence include: WATER, an European Union Project on ecosystem services mapping, WEPES a project on wetland services, C-Plus a project developing carbon offsetting and UST a project funded by South West Water looking at improving raw water quality.

Laurence instigated an education and fundraising strategy to deliver one of the key remits of the Trust. This included publishing several educational resources as well as securing funding for the Trust's 'Wet Feet' campaign that set up activities and resources for children to learn about their local rivers.

Laurence was brought into the Trust to design, develop and run a Higher Education Foundation Degree at Duchy College on Sustainable River Basin Management. this expanded into a wider education remit including primary school work and running vocational courses

Laurence is the conservation representative on the South West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (SWRFCC) helping to increase the environmental benefits from flood risk schemes as well as promote the role of catchment management through this and other partnerships.

Board member on the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership helping link together catchment scale projects and promote environmental protection across Cornwall.

During my consultancy work I carried out protected species surveys and mitigation work as well as environmental modelling work such as carbon sequestration in land use change and fish survival rates during sediment releases.
