From a young age, I was inspired by the spirit and inventions of my great grandfather, Elmer Ambrose Sperry and grand uncle (my namesake), Lawrence Sperry. I followed in their footsteps by becoming an instrument rated pilot and then a successful innovator.An early diagnosis of dyslexia shaped my skills as a problem solver. I learned to approach challenges by relying on my strengths including my curiosity and intuition. These traits are integral to my success as an inventor. With years of experience, I have developed confidence in my ability to envision obscure thoughts as reality. Colleagues describe me as brilliant, innovative and driven with a mix of passion and generosity. My career mirrors my life, where potential barriers provide an opportunity for innovation.In 1992, I founded Sperry Product Innovation (SPI) to invent, engineer and license/sell new technologies. From the outset, I turned great ideas into patented technologies by focusing on market needs and synthesizing complex problems into reliably manufacturable solutions. Through consistent, market-driven vision, SPI has developed product lines that have secured over $8 billion in sales for our license partners.My greatest professional achievement, however, is my team at Sperry Product Innovation (SPI). I can provide the vision, direction and motivation but it takes a talented, passionate and hardworking team to build success. The SPI approach to product development is fully encompassing from concept to product launch and beyond. We provide consistent innovation year over year.In my spare time, you’ll find me mountain biking, skiing and traveling across the continents.
