DEVELOPING A PORTFOLIO OF AGRI-FINANCE INTERVENTIONS FOR THE UNCDF Lauren acted as part of a team performing a comprehensive study of the intersection of agricultural and financial markets in order to develop a portfolio of interventions for the UNCDF. The ultimate goal of this review was to draft a report containing a value-added proposition for UNCDF in the sector and a portfolio of interventions. FUND FOR RURAL PROSPERITYLauren was part of Nathan’s design team for the design of the MasterCard Foundation’s Fund for Rural Prosperity (FRP). The FRP is a seven year, $50 million multi-window, agriculture finance challenge fund, established in 2014. As part of the design team, Lauren undertook market research to determine the geographical scope of the two windows of the FRP, the Innovation Window and the Scaling Window, and also assisted in defining the governance structure and the eligibility and selection criteria of the two Windows. MALAWI INNOVATION CHALLENGE FUND (MICF)Lauren was the project manager of the Malawi Innovation Challenge Fund (MICF), a USD 8 million challenge fund through which businesses can apply for grant funding for innovative projects within two windows, agriculture / agro-processing and manufacturing.

In her role as Business Development Manager, Lauren managed DAI proposals and projects, including a US$ 2 million IFC-funded, multi-country SME lending project with Banc ABC in Southern Africa and an agri-lending EBRD project with Ararat Bank in Armenia. The agrilending project mobilised international experts to Ararat Bank in Armenia to increase sustainable agrilending, in part through the creation of new products and risk assessment methodologies. Other projects managed include an EBRD-funded SME banking project in Macedonia with Ohridska Banka Société Générale (OBSG); an EBRD funded-project with ICS Total Leasing in Moldova and an IFC funded Olive Oil promotion project in Palestine. Lauren also oversaw the final reports of the EBRD Armenia Multi-Bank Finance Facility Fund and the IFC’s Technical Assistance to Rawbank project.

Lauren wrote scoping paper on the topic of early childhood development for the International Education Team, mapping current ActionAid projects in this field and identifying possible future implementing and funding partners, with a view to examine project and/or programme extensions in line with ActionAid’s International Education Team’s Narrative Plan (2011-2013). The scoping paper included a literature review, interviews with international ActionAid offices, a summary of possible external partners and finally conclusions and recommendations. Lauren organised and facilitated the TEGINT project (Transforming Girls’ Education in Nigeria and Tanzania) 2010 Annual Planning Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, including finalising the meeting budget. She wrote and circulated annual planning meeting report and oversaw third-party Mid-term Evaluation of the project.

She created cross-tabulation tables and scatter point graphs of descriptive statistics to provide economic context to the 2010 General Survey on Employment, which was presented to the ILO’s Committee of Experts, an independent body comprised of legal experts tasked with providing recommendations to countries to improve compliance with international labour standards. She also drafted explanatory paragraphs for the main text of the General Survey to accompany descriptive statistics.
