I'm incredibly honored to have the chance to regenerate our agricultural systems so that they better support the people and places we all depend on.

In 2020, I conducted a nation-wide research analysis to increase the East Denver Food Hub's understanding of how other comparable organizations create and measure equitable impacts within their communities. This research study focused strongly on food sovereignty, community livelihood, and creating systems based change. My research then focused inwardly at the East Denver Food Hub's own community. Together we explored how the various stakeholders of the organization define success and dignity within their work, and how the organizations can further support the aspirations and agency of their community. This work was completed primarily through stakeholder engagement, community-based design, and participatory empowerment.

The most important things in life take risk and cannot be found within your comfort zone. I grow the most when I step out of what is comfortable in pursuit of my values. As I grew into my adult self, I became more strongly aware of some of my core values, such as equity, community, resilience, and environmental wellbeing through food systems. As a result, I decided to go back to school! In this program, I took a focus on market-driven change, supply system opportunities, and farmer-based engagement, all with the goal of social and ecological regeneration. Furthermore, I dove into:- agricultural policy- food justice and equity- sourcing and supply- community engagement- qualitative research and analysis- responsible business theory and practice- intersectional environmentalism- food security and nodes for meaningful change

My project focused on the growing need to help food and fiber brands develop "regenerative supply webs, where suppliers and buyers collaborate to consciously regenerate agricultural systems and develop and empower communities" (Ethan Soloviev). Myself and 3 other Masters of the Environment students worked closely with leaders in the growing regenerative economy and agricultural space to co-develop a guide for future regenerative supply practitioners and fellows to expand upon and utilize in this emergent field. Our team developed a guidebook to define and provide the essential thought frameworks, resources, networks, and skills necessary for traditional supply practitioners to become regenerative supply practitioners. This guidebook is nuanced and complex, yet tangible and accessible, compiling integrated knowledge, research, and technology to evolve capacity in understanding regenerative supply. Us fellows within the Mad Agriculture/Terra Genesis fellowship piloted the toolkit with food and fiber brands to guide them towards a deeper embodiment of regeneration in their business strategy, operations, sourcing, and leadership.

Targeted the Boulder County zero-waste goals at the annual Boulder County Fair. This was accomplished through public education, volunteer recruitment, and a mandate for vendors to only use compostable and recyclable food service items. Though this internship, we increased waste diversion rate from 30% to 49%, ultimately diverting 16,500 pounds of waste from the landfill.

In addition to my role as a cook for Graze, I also worked to continuously improve the business's environmental impact. Such projects included the implementation of compost and recycling practices. I have built a relationship with a local food-rescue organization to decrease any food waste from our catered events.

My travels abroad and around the US during my time off opened my eyes to urban agriculture, educational gardens, permaculture, progressive/sustainable agriculture, food injustices, and food waste.
