I have always been interested in how mathematics can be used to solve real-world problems, and I believe that communication between researchers from different areas of expertise is essential for effective problem-solving. Throughout my research career, I worked on multiple projects in collaboration with academic and industry partners to develop mathematical models with an application to drug discovery and medical devices. I was drawn to these projects for the real-world applications and because I liked the idea of my work having an impact outside of academia. Now, as Knowledge Exchange Manager at the ICMS, I am responsible for promoting interactions between academic mathematical scientists and those outside of academia. The ICMS exists to promote the mathematical sciences, and we do this by providing funding and support for a diverse programme of international events and other activities.
