As a member of a collaborative team within Ontario Health, I support hospitals in reporting timely & accurate data to the Wait Time Information System (WTIS). The WTIS measures wait times for diagnostic imaging (MRI & CT), surgery, and Alternate Level of Care (ALC) wait times for the province of Ontario. Intern At Addiction Prevention And Treatment Services
Projects included:• The planning and development of a knowledge exchange conference held in Halifax. Responsibilities included discussion with stakeholders, participant and presenter registration & budget analysis.• The facilitation of focus groups in high schools in which we discussed gambling. These discussions were captured by a filmmaker and presented to a local health board.• Working in conjunction with a local needle exchange, I developed and implemented an educational module on harm reduction for fellow staff members.• I prepared an election primer for Injury Free Nova Scotia, in which I discussed issues surrounding alcohol, with the goal of helping Nova Scotians make an educated choice in the provincial election. The presentation of my findings gained positive attention among health care professionals in Halifax and a decision was made to further research in order to protect women and young people from the targeted and persuasive marketing strategies used by the alcohol industry.
