Hi, I am a 2017 Purdue graduate with a BS in Biochemistry. I worked in an epigenetics lab as an undergraduate for 2 years; there I worked with yeast and helped acquire data for a now published paper that explains how a known epigenetic factor governs antifungal drug efficacy. My main contribution to this paper was growing mutant strains of yeast under aerobic and hypoxic conditions and extracting proteins to visualize by western blot. However, I also learned a plethora of other molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including yeast genetics, aseptic techniques, autoclave sterilization, molecular cloning, immunoassays, PCR, gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, nucleic acid extraction and quantification, growth assay, spectroscopy, and bacterial transformation. I then became a research technician in a plant genetics lab on campus and had my own project that looked at genetic control of Sigma factors by utilizing RT-qPCR and analyzing the data. In this lab, I also worked under a postdoc to help purify a protein kinase via FPLC. A first author paper is currently being reviewed and will hopefully be published soon on my work in Arabidopsis. I gave industry a try and recently completed a 4 month contract with CSL Behring in Bradley, IL where I sampled water throughout the plant to be tested. I was part of a team where my motivation and hard working attitude showed through an improvement in organization. I decided not to stay and moved to North Carolina where I am currently looking for a chance to challenge myself as well as continue my education. My research interests include molecular biology, microbiology, epidemiology, pathology, and forensics. I would like to focus on research and development and continue working at the bench or obtain a government position dealing with forensics.
