Even before graduating in Sculpture from UWE Bristol, in 1997, Laurens started working as a freelance sculptor, set builder, prop maker and props master within the film industry.It was while travelling in Central America, sitting on a beach in Honduras eating a mango, that Laurens first thought of the name 'Mangostone', it would be 20 years before he registered the company name...Laurens began specialising in animation set building, prop making, art direction and model making for stop frame animation feature films (Aardman Animations), as well as working on a string of music promos and commercials.2013 - Laurens went to Pinewood Studios, after working on Ridley Scott's Exodus Gods & Kings he set up and ran Pinewood Creative, on behalf of the studios, as an in-house set building and prop making department, supplying major productions such as Star Wars, Assassins Creed, Beauty & The Beast, and The Nutcracker, to name but a few.In 2017 Laurens returned to Bristol to launch Mangostone Ltd.Props - Sets - Models & sculpture for film, TV retail environments and Museums & visitor attractions.Specialising in Creature FX - Animatronics - SFX props & Sculpture.

Specialising in Props, Sets, Models, Museum exhibitions and interactives as well as any other bespoke design and build projects.As well as the existing Carpenter's Mill, our facilities will include 5-axis CNC, Vac forming, laser cutting, spray shop, and all you would expect to find in a comprehensive making facility. With 30,000 square feet of workshop space at our disposal there is nothing we cannot accommodate. This year we are introducing a range of digital services comprising 3D printing and 3D photogrammetry body scanning. -

Senior Sculptor And Team LeaderCod Steaks Jan 1996 - Feb 2004Laurens worked at Cod Steaks as a freelance sculptor and model maker from 1996, becoming a permanent member of the creative team in 2000. During that time Laurens developed leadership skills and materials knowledge becoming a key member of the team, on location film shoots as well as in the workshop. Key Projects included a number of animated commercials for Aardman Animations - Direct Line, Tennents Larger and Channel 4, and work for Boston based animation company Olive Jar. Pop promos included Finley Quaye, Jamiroquai, Simply Red, Texas and The Seahorses, involving set development, construction and studio and location art department functions, as well as special effects.Laurens' final collaboration was on the Aardman feature 'Revenge of the Were Rabbit' in 2005. -

Using sculptural and scenic painting techniques, the Undetectables were the first company to fill the gap for this specialised area of work in the UK.

Props MasterMoonlit Pictures Jul 1996 - Sep 1996Initiallty Laurens was on the phone securing funding and acquiring props for this privatley funded film production. Laurens filled the post of Props Master managing the continuity of props for each set to include the care and delivery back to the lenders of all the props, from all the furniture and motor vehicles to a complete kitchen. Nearly all of these props were lent free of charge by local businesses in return for a credit on the film, which is where Laurens' persuasive talents came into play.
